Rumi

I don't know when, but I have become a very big fan of Rumi's quotes. Rumi was a 13th century Persian sufi saint. His quotes are full of wisdom. They really really touch your heart. Some of them are beyond my understanding, but I do hope they would be more beautiful when I understand them completely.

Here are some quotes from Rumi.

  • Reason is powerless in the expression of Love.
  • If you are irritated by every rub, how will you be polished?
  • I am so happy, I cannot be contained in the world;
    But like a spirit, I am hidden from the eyes of the world.
    If the foot of the trees were not tied to earth, they would be pursuing me;
    For I have blossomed so much, I am the envy of the gardens.
  • I died as a mineral and became a plant,
    I died as plant and rose to animal,
    I died as animal and I was Man.
    Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?
    Yet once more I shall die as Man, to soar
    With angels blest; but even from angelhood
    I must pass on: all except God doth perish.
    When I have sacrificed my angel-soul,
    I shall become what no mind e'er conceived.
    Oh, let me not exist! for Non-existence
  • Come, come, whoever you are.
    Wanderer, idolator, worshiper of fire, come even though you have broken your vows a thousand times,
    Come, and come yet again. Ours is not a caravan of despair.

A nice poem

This is a poem in the new Hindi movie - Dilli6. The lyrics were so beautiful and I just wanted to write down the meaning of it.

"Zarre Zarre Mein Usi Ka Noor Hai
Jhak Khud Mein Woh Na Tujhse Door Hai
Ishq Hai Usse To Sab Se Ishq Kar
Ishq Hai Usse, To Sab Se Ishq Kar
Is Ibadat Ka Yehi Dastoor Hai
Is Mein Us Mein Aur Us Mein Hai Wohi
Is Mein Us Mein Aur Us Mein Hai Wohi
Yaar Mera Har Taraf Bharpur Hai .."

It appears to be a Sufi poem [ not sure]. Sufi poems are really beautiful if understood properly. They have a deep meaning and carry the message of mystic love. My explanation of the poem would only mean to reduce the true essence of the poem.If you understand Urdu/this poem better, your comments are welcome. Let me write down what it means to me so that others can at least have an idea what the poem says:

[some meanings I found from google search :: Zarre = dust particles;Noor = light ; ibadat = prayer; dastoor =signature/book, Yaar = friend/God].

"He is spread everywhere and He is in everything . Look inside you and He is not away from you. If you love Him , love everyone. This is the essence of this prayer. He is the same in you,me and everyone.He is complete in every direction."

Finally Nadal conquers the Wimbledon

After many boring and event-less weekends , there was finally a good weekend - thanks to one of the greatest matches in wimbledon. Rafael Nadal finally defeated his long time opponent and the current best player - Roger Federer. In particular I am fan of Nadal not because of his game but just because of his fighting spirit. The first two sets seemed to be cakewalk for Nadal , and I was quite surprised to see Federer losing those two sets without much of a fight .. But the real game started in the third set and it was worth watching the match there on and you know what followed after that.Federer seemed to be very defensive in the first sets, but his formula of dragging the opponent to the tie breaker and clinching the tie breaker worked in 3rd and 4th sets.

Overall this year seems to be very good for Nadal. Federer's reign over the game seems to be ending. I am sure Federer would come back again but he may have to fight hard and may not be just Nadal . I was some how convinced that Federer was unrivalled just because there are no other great players in this period. Until last year , it seemed so. Especially if Pete Sampras could beat him even after he has retired from the game for a long time I had to doubt if the other players were giving enough competition to Federer. Well I am not doubting Federer's game. I indeed like his calm and composed attitude even when he is pushed to edge of a defeat, his killer serves and near the net heroics.

Finally .. that was great fight from Nadal , and would be remembered. - and that's about the game. I somehow was convinced that Nadal would beat Federer in this Final . I believe that being at no.2 for Nadal for a long time has given him some definite advantage. He has played many finals with Federer and its seems Nadal has completely read Federer's game. Nadal seems to have got enough time to read his opponents game over the last few years and his script for this final has worked.Also , it appeared that Federer was more tensed and worried than Nadal. For Nadal, if he had lost this match , it would have been just another final lost to Federer. But for Federer it was not like that - it was like letting something he owned for a long time to be just given away. It was a kind of psychological advanatage for Nadal and it worked in his favor.

So that's one of my junk theories - "advantages of being at no.2".Guess that was sufficient to kill your time. Enjoy.

Words of Wisdom

I was looking for this quote for a long time. Have read this on the back cover of a book a few years back . Found the notes today.

Never believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Never believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Never believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Never believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Never believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
Only after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

--Buddha

Simple , but makes a lot of sense.Be it a science or religion , these lines are true. Give a thought..

The begining

The day has finally come, that I have decided to put my thoughts and learnings into a blog. Choosing the name of this blogspot itself took a lot of time . The name thoughts-beyond was somthing that just came across .. I guess I might have got inspired from a book title - "Intelligence and beyond". The book is ofcourse not any AI related book, but a biography of a saint famously known as 'Dada'. Mentioning my interests , one of the areas which interest me is spiritual sciences. (I am not sure if spiritual sciences is any science because it is not any empirical science.)

Will write some more bits soon ..
